June is here, actually quite a while ago and we’re looking forward to the end already! I have several reasons for this but we’ll get into that later.

Again, staff are changing and we had to say goodbye to our special education teacher, Genis Suarez, from Colombia. She has severe rheumatoid arthritis and the rough conditions here, including both extremes of hot and cold weather, were just too much. We appreciate the help she was able to lend us while she was here and wish her the best as she returns to her home in Colombia.

Three weeks ago we had the exciting opportunity of welcoming a new baby into the world! A neighbor of ours, who does a lot of our chainsaw work, came to advise Wendy Hall, our campus nurse, that his oldest daughter was in labor with her second child. Wendy went with him and did a check-up and told him to call her again when she was farther advanced. I volunteered to go along, and at 5 am Sabbath morning, he came to call us. We quickly dressed and Wendy grabbed her delivery kit and we drove the pickup up the couple of kilometers to their place. I got the pickup royally stuck in the mud, but we were close enough that we just walked the rest of the way.

First Graduating Class: 2006-2007
May 27, 2007 marked a significant date in the history our mission school! At the conclusion of our 10 month program, we had eight females and three males successfully obtain their diplomas. We are so proud of our graduates and all their hard work over the last year. The Minister of Health for Guyana was one of our special invited guests at our graduation. He delivered a very nice address for the students, stating that the Ministry of Health intends on working closely with BMMC.

MISSION PROJECT: “FAMILIA FELIZ” Children’s Home
Melissa Harding - Director
LOCATION: Rurrenabaque, Bolivia

educational centerDESCRIPTION: “Familia Feliz” is a fairly new project which was begun in August of 2005 with 5 children. The property consists of 250 acres in the jungle and is located about 10 miles out of the town of Rurrenabaque, which is at the edge of the Madidi National Park. Construction was begun on the property in June of 2006, and is still in progress. We currently have running water, some solar power, and several buildings that are almost finished. We have a beautiful view of the jungle and mountains. Our goal at Familia Feliz is to provide a Christ-centered, safe, and loving home environment, a Christian education, and medical/dental care for children who are orphaned, abandoned, abused, neglected, unwanted, or impoverished. Children are placed in family groups of 6-8 children with one or two house parents to care for them. We currently have 56 children.

This month, the channel is under construction, as some rooms are being renewed, the walls being painted and new services added… With the objective to make the building more comfortable for the visits and the workers. There would be a new video-backup room, secretary room and kitchen.

Some workers and all the volunteers are involved in some way with the work:
painting, cleaning, etc.

We expect to finish the work in this month, and from then we are going to be waiting your visit to the channel ;)

Dear friends and family,

It is four A.M. in the morning, the only time I have to myself, and a bit chilly because it is our winter in South America. This is just a little note to let you know how my family and I are doing and also how the work is progressing.

Hello everybody,

Ready to fly the helicopter over the manila International AirportThings are progressing though it seems slowly at times. We are getting closer to finishing up all of the ATO requirements for my pilot and mechanic licenses to be transfered and working on the helicopter registration. Sunday I flew a pastor up into the mountains to perform a mass wedding at a small SDA church. Many of the people were not legally married because they have not had an ordained minister there to perform marriages. I dropped the pastor off and flew back and picked up Terry (the guy that arranged everything) and flew back up to the mountains to attend the mass wedding. The villagers had put boards on the landing area trying to make it more solid for the helicopter but ended up making things more difficult. As I shut the helicopter down and me and Terry got out it rocked back on the skids because there was a gap between the boards at the back of the skids where I had set down.
