Dear Family and Friends

This last week has been very fun for me. I went with Wendy and her parents out of the Mountains for a short vacations. On Sunday afternoon I flew Wendy’s parents out of the mountains and then brought the helicopter back in to the mountains and hiked back out with Wendy and Michelle. The Georges loaned us their pickup truck and we hurried as fast as we could to get on our way to Puerto. We left Brooks Point about 4:30 and had a good drive most of the way until it got dark. The last section in the dark was tended to be rougher than the rest of the drive because it was hard to see the holes and big bumps in the road. We arrived in Puerto at about 8:00 P.M. and the next morning we did a little grocery shopping since it was our only chance, the main big store was closed on the 1st. We then headed across the island for what is called the underground river. It was later in the day when we got over there and there were some heavy rain showers coming in so we did not go to the underground river till the next morning on the 1st. We had a very enjoyable time playing in the waves along a nice beach that is there, and the underground river is very interesting, it is a very large cave with a river in the bottom of it that opens into the ocean. After we got back from the underground river we ate lunch and headed back to Puerto for the night.

AMA Mongolia

Dear Friends and Family,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! It hardly seems possible that another year is drawing to a close, but looking back on this year we cannot help but say, “Look what God has done!”

In September, Beaver and a friend/pilot Erik Vandenburg went to pick up ‘God’s Airplane’ from its hanger residence in Labelle, Florida. From there they flew the plane to Franklin, GA, where they worked in a concerted effort with Curtis Abrahamson and his employer/coworkers at Gardner Aviation to add/change some important avionics. The results are beautiful to a pilot’s eye and are absolutely indispensable for flying in Mongolia!!

It’s hard to believe that we are already well into the year 2008. May 2008, our target launch date into full-time ministry with Mongolia Medical Aviation, is just a few short months away! As we attempt to prepare for climactic extremes, culture reform, language immersion, financial dependence, and priority reassignment, just to name a few, our thoughts trace the path God has lead us thus far.

1/2005 – We moved to Phoenix, AZ where Beaver became first a private pilot, and then an instrument rated pilot, and now a commercial pilot. God also provided jobs for both of us, nursing in the emergency room. What a blessing this has been in training!

8/2005 – David Gates asked us to go to Mongolia to start a free medical air transport service for the Mongolian people. “The country is open, now is the time to enter.”

“Good morning,” said the voice on the phone. “This is the Director of Protocol from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calling. May I speak with your legal representative, Jenny Mendoza?”

Some time ago, Jenny had filed an application for an international NGO status with the Ministry, which if approved, would give us duty free importation and provide special residence and work privileges to our volunteers. Remembering that she had invited the Director to visit our projects, Jenny enthusiastically took the call and greeted the Director.

After the call Jenny came running into the office where I was working. “David, the Director has accepted my invitation to visit our TV network and prison ministry. He was calling from the President’s office and said he will be here tomorrow morning. This is very good since you will be here to meet him.” Jenny hardly paused to catch her breath. “Once they get to know us, this could mean the approval of our International NGO status. Lets keep praying.” We all reflected Jenny’s enthusiasm throughout the day as we thought about the many legal expenses and travel that could be avoided if all our volunteers had residency permits. AMA Venezuela | January Updates

Greetings friends,

Here we are at the beginning of another year and I want to let you know how things are going regarding AMA and the airplanes. Finally we were able to disassemble the hurt 182 and transport it to our flight base. Gary Lewis, Celco (our radio operator), and I flew out in the 172 to take the engine out, the wings off, and prepare the plane to be moved. You will notice from the attached picture that it had a ride in a large dugout upriver for three hours. This was after a lot of hard work, which included carrying it up a bank to the river. Two mechanics were sent out to help, but they didn’t arrive until we were nearly finished. The last part of the journey home the airplane rode on a truck, where it sat resting until some further paperwork was finished. Just this week it has been hauled the 12 hours to the shop in Ciudad Bolivar where the damage can be assessed by my friend Tomas, who does all the maintenance on our planes, and a decision will have to be made regarding the best plan for our hurt bird.

Dear family and friends, I am not sure anyone got this last letter so I am just adding an update to it.
I met Jonathan Fenner (young helicopter pilot that is interested in being a missionary pilot) in Manila and he accompanied me back down to Palawan to visit the project down here and get an idea of what things are like over here. He turned out to be a big help the week he was here in working on the new clinic. We got a new floor in it and all the inside room walls framed up and things are starting to look like we are really making progress. We did some exploratory flying in the local area and located an area with quite a few huts that probably has never been influenced from the outside and it is only a 10 minute flight from our main area here. I am just praying God will give us the time and people to try and expand here and spread God’s word throughout these mountains.
Last Sunday it was David’s birthday and everyone was planning a party for him and Wendy was arranging with Chris in the lowlands to send some ice up so we could make some homemade ice cream. She had text Chris the request for ice early Sunday morning and later in the day I arranged to meet him with the helicopter and get some other things I needed to bring in anyway and was going to bring the ice back in. When I got there and asked him for the ice he could not figure out what I was talking about but he had a sack of rice with him to send in. He had misread the message and though it was rice that we wanted and not ice, it was pretty funny anyway.
The weather has been pretty nice this last week with not much rain. This Friday morning I flew Jonathan back out to Brooks Point so he could catch a shuttle back to Puerto and start his return trip back to the States. I took care of some things in Brooks Point and flew a generator back with me Friday afternoon. God has really been blessing this helicopter project and me in everyway.
I thank you for all of your continued prayers and support.

God Bless, Dwayne

I will ad a little more to this letter since it has not be going through. It is just after Christmas on Sunday and will be headed out for Puerto later today. I had a good Christmas with Wendy and her parents and the rest of the student missionaries here. Wendy’s parents came up to visit for the first time since Wendy has been working up here. We really have had a good week, things have not been to busy and have had time just to socialize some. Things are coming along on the new clinic and I have all the wire strung for the electrical and just am waiting on the outlets and boxes which we will get this next week. God is been so good to us up here I feel to me especially in everyway. I thank you all so much for your prayers and support for this project.

Dear Family and Friends

Since I wrote last we have been walking around in a mud swamp at least half of the time because of all of the rain we have had. There has been two tropical storms that have come through the Philippines in the last couple of weeks and although we don’t get directly hit by them in Palawan we get a lot of rain. The week of Thanksgiving it rained the first three days and finally looked like it might be nice for Thanksgiving but it rained all that morning two.

Dear Family and Friends

The last couple weeks has been fun and busy. Wendy and I have been working on plans for the summer and a wedding. We have such a limited amount of time and resources to work with we are going to have a very small wedding in Montana with only our immediate family attending and then have several different casual receptions as we travel around to see family and friends. God is truly amazing to us in how he has been working everything out for this project and our personal plans for this summer.

Happy New Years Everyone!

It`s hard to believe that 2007 is now history, but it is. New Year`s Eve I was considering writing out some new years resolutions, but it all of a sudden occurred to me that I was taking the wrong angle. I needed to look back and count my blessings from the past year, so to build my faith for the year to come. One of the things that made the past year significant for me is that I didn`t leave Bolivia at all for the entire year. I have now been here over 16 months since the last and only time I visited home. Blessings included a campus that has sprung up VERY fast. Just a couple of weeks before Christmas, we paid the last payment to our contractor on the construction of our main building. Although our carpenter is not finished, so we still lack some doors and varnishing of some of the wood work, the main part of construction is FINISHED! We were very excited, and I`ve never had a more satisfied feeling of telling the contractor thank you very much for his work and have a good trip back home. God has blessed hugely.
