Tuesday morning in Detroit…

Forecasted high? 20 degrees. We pack up our stuff and shuttle to the airport where we wait for our favorite airline agent to come on duty. She arrives. The temperature is a balmy 18. Just 2 degrees short of the acceptable temperature for doggies to fly. We check our six bags and decide to wait it out. The plan was pretty much the same as yesterday. Jessi and I will go ahead. Ruan will stay back with the doggy, but if it warms up to 20 by 2:30pm, Ruan will come with us. Jessi and I struggle through security again…didn’t we do this yesterday? It’s 2:25pm. I call Ruan from Jessi’s phone. He answers and says that they are checking the dog, even though it is only 19 degrees. He will be with us shortly. Reaching Hearts For Kids has suffered a huge loss when the Head office of Norma Nashed was destroyed by Fire over the Christmas Break in 2007. Norma was away on a mission trip to Ethiopia when the tragedy struck. Hello again,
We have had a very sober day here at BMMC. Wendy’s parents and her aunt came this morning along with some elders and the village council members/captain. We sat on our porch and tried our best to reason with the parents to let Wendy stay on campus. The mother refused to listen.

The elders and Gilbert told her that Wendy is an adult, she can make her own decisions, and we want to stand behind Wendy’s desires. Any time that she has been thinking clearly, she makes it very known to all who are round that she does not want to go home and she wants to stay at school. We wanted to hear from Wendy, but the mother refused to let her speak saying she was mentally ill and not herself. Finally, the counsel was able to speak with her in my home for just a few minutes until the mother stated that this was enough and ordered the father to go and physically remove Wendy from my home. I was standing near the door and as they carried Wendy passed, she grabbed onto my shirt collar and would not let go. I was pulled half way down my stairs and nearly choked. She was screaming and crying to Gilbert and I to not let them take her. The father, mother, and aunt had to drag her across our campus. The whole time she was crying out and reaching for Gilbert saying “Sir, Sir, please don’t let them do this to me, please save me, please help me!” Gilbert followed at a distance, but he could do nothing. The parents have reported to the police that we have brainwashed Wendy and turned her against them. The village counsel just stood there and let her be abducted-we feel they should have intervened as what

Hi Everyone,

Time is moving so incredibly fast that once again I find myself looking for the last newsletter I sent and it`s dated for September. I`ve had several people asking me what`s been happening down here, so I`ll fill you in.

Obviously, my plans to take a year off have been delayed, as I`m still in Bolivia, but God is in control, and I can see that I still needed to be here. Plans are not canceled, just postponed. However, in the past few months, with the arrival of Laurie Dinges and her family, I`ve had more time to focus on my little family of children, and the results of have been good. We`ve recently moved out of the big building, so we are a little more separated and the kids have really been responding to the family atmosphere. Due to our time in Santa Cruz earlier on, the kids are a bit behind in school, so e`re working during this vacation to catch them up. This gives us more one on one time as well and all of us are really enjoying it. Continue reading ‘Familia Feliz | Believe it or not, it`s me again!’

Our travel plans have been slightly altered.

All weekend long we have been anxious about the temperature. In order for Boesman to fly, the temperature must be 20 degrees. So, this morning, after saying good-bye to our friends in Lansing, Ruan, Jessi, and I continued on to Detroit with Ruan’s parents and our puppy dog. The temperature upon arrival? 12 degrees. It wasn’t looking positive.

We unpacked our luggage and left Boesman in the car so we could talk to the airline about our options. The first lady who helped us checked with a supervisor who adamantly told us that the dog would not go. It was just too cold. Dear Family and Friends,
We have gained a victory with Wendy, but the devil is now attacking from a new angle - he is relentless and we are tired! We struggled with Wendy for over 24 hours with the elders and the local pastor. We were up for two nights in a row and finally it seems that Wendy has over come. Sabbath morning she seemed at peace, although she was unable to speak as something was holding her throat. She was able to write messages to us and she told us Jesus had given her the victory - by Sabbath afternoon she could sing and pray.

As I said though, the devil is not giving up that easy. Her parents came to campus on Friday and wanted to take Wendy home. Wendy told them no, she was not going. Sabbath morning they returned to take her home, and she once again said no. Her mother became very angry and told us that she does not believe that Wendy was possessed, but that Gilbert and I have done this to her. She said she has never seen her daughter openly rebel against her parents until Gilbert and I got involved.

I encourage every one of our worldwide ministry leaders to pray with your teams for the Sissons.

Dear Friends and Family,
We are urgently requesting that you uplift one of our students, Wendy, in earnest prayer right now. She is currently demon possessed and we have been fighting this or these demons for over 12 hours now. She has been struggling with some personal issues and last night she collapsed in the kitchen. We brought her over to our home, thinking it was because she had not eaten much all day long due to depression. We gave her some honey and she seemed to do better. Then she started to run for the door, upon stopping her she fell to the floor, and continued to fight with us. She laughed in a demonic manner, especially when we mentioned the name of Jesus. She was speaking to someone telling them ” No you can’t kill me, ouch that hurts, I give up….” We ran down to the village and brought the local elders and we were up all night in prayer and singing and laying our hands on her. It has been an awful struggle. There are certain Bible texts that really seem to irritate her and cause her to laugh and say “No, No, No!” She indicated to the elder that she had five demons inside of her. We seemed to gain a victory early this am and she began to sing some hymns and respond to our questions. Unfortuately within the last few hours, she collapsed again, began to fight and try to run, and the same story as last night all over again. Continue reading ‘BMMC Needs your Prayers for Wendy’

Dear Family and Friends

These last couple of weeks has been busy. A measles epidemic has broke out in the mountains here and many children are coming down with it everyday. Most of the people have never had vaccinations for it because the government quite providing them some years back. Combined with some of the help being gone because of visa problems things have been very busy. I have been flying almost every day to take help to them or bring them out to help. Wendy has been running the clinic by herself all this last week and has been swamped every day with patients from morning to evening. Three people died last week because of measles combined with malaria and other problems. But I praise God that he has been using us to save lives as well through medicine and the capabilities of the helicopter.

210_1078.JPGWe are currently in Grenada preparing the boat for life on the Amazon.

Dear Friends and Family,
We look back over how quickly time has flown by since we last wrote, nearly a month and a half ago! At that time we had just arrived in the USA again from Brazil, with plans to stay for several weeks to get our visas worked out to return to Brazil. Since then, once again, many things have happened and we have seen the Lord leading us step by step. We are currently writing this letter floating on the catamaran in a lagoon off of Grenada, in the Caribbean Ocean. We are here equipping the boat for the trip back down to the Amazon.
