Trip on the Amazon

Last week I had the opportunity to take a week trip out on the Amazon River. I helped coordinate and plan a medical mission trip for a group of 10 health care professionals from the United States with an organization called Flying Doctors of America. We traveled over 48 hours in a rented boat up the Rio Solimoes to reach several villages where medical care was obsolete. Each day we set up medical and dentals clinics and saw as many patients as we could. Having a local malaria lab technician along with us proved to be very beneficial as we diagnosed multiple cases of malaria in several villages. Truly, the villagers were so grateful for the medical attention.

Dear Family and Friends,

On Tuesday, while we were in town, we received an email from one of the girls that graduated from our school last year. Earlier this year she moved to Cochabamba (a large city in central Bolivia) to study nursing. She saved some money and did literature evangelism in order to pay for her travel expenses. In Cochabamba she stayed with her aunt and uncle and worked in their wood shop in exchange for room and board and the cost of her studies.

latest picture of the completed water tower project (added a storage building), and two pictures of the primary school children at the hostel, Jesus Babu on the left, and the children in their new rented building, thanking David Gates and donors for helping to establish the school. Larry Sandelbach had visited the water tower before leaving for the US about three weeks ago.

Our next plan is to find property for the school which will also include a secondary school for older students. Please pray about this project.

God bless,
Shelley Senner

Pr Farell and our familyFIELD SCHOOL IN ACTION
What is field school? It is education that centers around Christ with the intent to equip mission leaders with the knowledge and skills required on the front lines. This was the second annual field school held on BMMCs campus and was organized by Pastor Andrew Farrel, Ministerial Secretary for the Caribbean Union Conference. Our students really enjoyed Pastor Farrel’s warm personality and one on one interaction. We were also blessed to have Pastor Stanton Adams, Pastor Sherwin White and Elder Branford Burke from the Guyana Conference of Seventh Day Adventists lead out in lectures. The meetings were conducted from May 15th-23rd and some of the topics that were lectured upon included: biblical foundations for family life, communication, preparation for marriage, evangelism techniques, and how to prepare a sermon.

The Resurrection Has Begun!

Earlier this year it became clear to us that this was going to be the year of our resurrection from our Lazarus experience. This is the year that the Lord would fund our projects and enable us to put the Good News of His soon return on the air to the world.

Three main things led me to this conclusion. The first is that this is the fourth year since our project “died” (our funding dried up) and our construction project stopped. As Lazarus was resurrected on the fourth day so this project would be resurrected in the fourth year. God is always on time! Second, I felt impressed that the TV station would be built in “troublous times” (same wording as Daniel 9:25). As I look around at what is happening in our world I am realizing more than ever we are on the verge of incredibly troublous times.

“…Something that happened yesterday (4 June 2008), which I still cannot put my head around. Last year I prayed for $3000 to buy a car, which the Lord graciously provided the last day before I left the college. Last week my ‘faith car’ began having mechanical problems, something to do with the water pump leaking water. So I began visiting different mechanics looking around for one who could offer the best deal. Anyway early that morning I had found out that a sister in the faith had given a gift to me of $200 dollars, which turned out to be 70% of the money needed to fix the car. So that was miracle No.1. Now this is where things get interesting! The mechanic said that I could leave the car in the shop and he would have it fixed by Friday. Just when I was about to agree I hesitated as I looked out the doors. It was pouring down rain. It was at least a 3 km walk to the train station (which normally I wouldn’t mind), but on this day I had a few electronic items in my bag which I didn’t see liking the water too much ;) During this hesitation, the mechanic that owned the shop saw my hesitation, and offered to drive me to the train station. Praise God for this!
