Brazil - Praise & Prayer
0 Comments Published by admin February 19th, 2009 in Brazil Medical Launch: Luzeiro AmazoniaBrothers and sisters,
It is with overwhelming emotions that I write this letter to you. Many, many things have occurred in just the last few weeks. As many of you have been following by email updates, we have been on our knees begging the Lord for the rest of the money needed to secure the base for the Luzeiro Project here in Manaus, Brazil, in the heart of the Amazon. We daily see the overwhelming need for Jesus’ love to reach the dark corners of the rivers. We daily pray and plead with the Lord for His financial provisions to make this program move forward as quickly as possible to reach the souls dying on the rivers.

•    Mayors promising full support for the program to enter their district
•    Import license granted for the catamaran
•    Money still remaining to be paid on land
•    Southern Adventist University School of Nursing coming end of February
I just returned from a very exciting trip down the Amazon River to a small town called Barreirinha, located between a small dirty river called the Rio Ramos and a very large river that penetrates into the heart of the country called the Rio Andira. Â The local district pastor invited us to come and meet with him, requesting that we bring a boat and start work in that region of the Amazon. Â I was able to attend my first campmeeting, sleeping in a tent on the banks of the Amazon. Â It was the first campmeeting for the AAMAR conference in 2009. Â People came from all over in boats. Â Most people slept in hammocks tied up under a big tent or slept in hammocks on their boats.
Volunteers Needed - Brazil Medical Launch
0 Comments Published by admin December 22nd, 2008 in Brazil Medical Launch: Luzeiro AmazoniaSHORT TERM TRIPS
We regularly plan short-term mission trips for groups from abroad. If you or someone you know is interested in participating in one of these trips, or planning one of your own, please contact us for further information. We usually arrange for transportation to and from the airport, a boat (with sleeping facilities), a cook, permission to work in several villages, and tourist activities.
LONG TERM OPPORTUNITIES
We are currently in need of:
1) A full-time pilot to run the aviation side of our program. We are praying for a seaplane that will be able to evacuate patients with medical emergencies out of the jungle to hospitals in larger cities. The plane will also be able to deliver needed supplies to the boat.
2) A director to start and lead a school of evangelism. This school will train local bible workers to provide follow-up care in the villages we have penetrated.

What a full and exciting month November was for the Brazil Medical Launch, Luzeiro Program! “Through the Lord’s mercy we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not, they are new every morning, great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I trust in Him.†  Lamentations 3:22-24. Truly we have been so blessed to see the Lord’s mercy anew every morning.
Meet Pastor Ronaldo

Pastor Ronaldo and his wife Ana Paula grew up with the desire to serve the Lord. They both grew up in Santa Catarina, a state in South Brazil. After meeting at an Adventist Camporee as teenagers, their relationship began. They were married in 2002 and headed to the Adventist University in São Paulo to obtain preparation for the Lord’s work. In 2007 they both graduated, Ronaldo from theology and Ana Paula from education. Excited to see where their “calling†would take them, they began to discuss how life would be as a new pastor and teacher. Ana Paula was certain they would receive a calling close to home and friends and family, where they could happily live and serve the Lord.
When Pastor Ronaldo came home with the news that they had received a call to go to Manaus, Amazonas, a large city tucked away in the humid Amazon Basin, Ana Paula only cried. Never had she dreamed of leaving her life, friends and family behind. Never had she dreamed of leaving the cool beautiful climate of South Brazil to go to the Amazon. After much prayer, they decided to follow the Lord’s leading.
Upon arriving to Manaus in January of 2008 they met the new challenges that awaited them. Pastor Ronaldo, a brand new pastor, was given his new district which was to include the poorest area on the extreme east edge of Manaus, in an area known as the invasion zone. This area is where people have recently cut down the jungle to establish crude, makeshift homes to try their lives in the big city. This area is where tropical diseases reign as man confronts nature: malaria, dengue, leshmaniasis, leprosy, and much more. The new and eager Pastor Ronaldo was given 11 churches that he was to pastor!

Houses on the Land  Access to the River   Puraquequara Base
Dear friends and family,
We are writing this letter out of the routine schedule of emails to let you know the AMAZING PROVISIONS of our God. We serve a wonderful God who has given us promises in His word and wants us to faithfully move forward claiming His promises. Please read the following and may all Praise and Glory go to our God who is faithful.
Since our arrival in Brazil we have been on the outlook for land on the river to serve as a base for our medical launch program. We have spent some time looking, driving all over the land that was on the river to find a suitable piece of property. Having launches and futures seaplanes, we needed a piece of land that could be easily accessed by road and was water front property to allow the boats and planes to be docked there. Our search never came up to anything worth while. We finally gave up the active search and decided we didn’t have time currently to continue looking. But we continued praying daily for God to open the door and make the right piece of land available.

The Walls of Jericho | Brazil Medical Launch Update
0 Comments Published by admin September 16th, 2008 in Brazil Medical Launch: Luzeiro Amazonia“Ring-Ring”. I answered the phone about a month ago to hear a sweet voice speaking English with a heavy Portuguese accent saying, “Mr. Mills, this is the Brazilian Consulate in Miami. We are calling to inform you that the volunteer visas for you and your family to work in Brazil have been denied!”
I stuttered and stammered in disbelief. “DENIED! You mean… well what do you mean? What can we do now?” Here we were, already in Brazil, moving forward to help start the medical launch to reach the unreached of the Amazon region with the message of Christ’s imminent return. Here we were, Lina less than 4 weeks from delivery, our whole lives dedicated to helping this cause…. and our visas DENIED.
We prayed and prayed and asked the Lord what could be going on. We had seen His hand so clearly guiding and opening so many doors, how could this be happening? We decided to continue moving forward by faith, certainly this was just another tactic of the devil to discourage us from doing this great work for God. With faith and a whole lot of prayers I headed off to the US consulate to see what could be done.
It was a difficult situation we were in. Our baby would be born in Brazil to parents who had only a tourist visa. Our visas were to expire on the 10th of October, the last day that we could legally be in the country. With the baby being born in Brazil we would have to apply for US citizenship as a birth abroad and apply for a US passport for the baby, which would take at least four weeks. So we would be required to leave the country and return to the USA, but our baby would not yet be an American citizen with the ability to return. This was a problem! The kind US consulate representative heard us out and wasn’t sure what to do either. She said we should talk to the Brazilian Federal Police, who deal with all immigration issues. Unto us a child is born | Brazil Medical Launch
0 Comments Published by admin September 15th, 2008 in Brazil Medical Launch: Luzeiro AmazoniaJust a quick note to say we have a new edition to the Mills Family. Lucas David Mills was born on Tuesday, September 9 at 1:10 am at the Adventist Hospital of Manaus, weighing in at 7 ½ pounds and about 20 inches long. Thanks be to God, all went very well, with Lina only being in labor for a little less than 3 hours. Monday night a little after 10 pm she started to have some back pains. She tried to rest a while. Sometime around 11:20 she got in the shower. By the time she got out of the shower her contractions were coming at every 2-3 minutes. We rushed to the hospital and were not even there for more than 1 hour and 15 minutes before he was born! We came home on Tuesday and all has been going very well since.
