Re: Humble response to your letter being circulated on the Internet

Dear Pastor Wilson,

We have personally known each other, corresponded together and have been praying for each other for over twenty years. I continue to pray that God will give you divine strength and wisdom in your heavy responsibilities as our church world president.

I want to thank you for your letter dated March 24, 2017 which has been circulating publicly on the Internet. This is a beautiful opportunity to lay the cards on the table before our world church.

What I most appreciate about your letter is the fact that you have correctly identified that there is only one issue which must be resolved in order to restore a working relationship between the General Conference and myself. You told me personally that you know that I love the church and its mission. This has not changed. It is not my loyalty, theology or fruits of our ministry that is being question. The church always grows wherever our missionaries work. We just need to resolve this issue in order to re-establish a working relationship.

The members of our board are all godly men. Four are ordained ministers. Included are the retired presidents of Wildwood Sanitarium and Lifestyle Center, Eden Valley Institute, Outpost Centers International, and Laurelbrook Academy. All have for decades administered supporting ministries which work closely with the church. Just as you have to work with your board, so do I. After carefully considering the request that we close down all our medical work, orphanages, schools and media work for 10 years and agree in writing to not open any new projects without denominational permission, our board voted unanimously that we could not comply with such a request, seeing that it would violate our conscience and in addition was a direct contraction to the same Policy K05.05 #4.

I humbly present two requests:

1. The policy K05.05 is composed of 6 points (copy attached). Point #4 clearly states that supporting ministries must explicitly state that they are not legally affiliated with or controlled by the church. Yet #6 says you cannot work without permission. These two are contradictory. One of our board members was present on the GC committee when #6 was voted. It was then pointed out that not allowing members to work for God without first obtaining human authority was in contradiction to the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. Based on Acts 5:29, one of the pillars of Protestantism is that no human authority may interfere with a man’s conscience. It was further stated that supporting ministries would never agree to work under such a policy. Point #6 was voted anyway. I humbly urge you to remove this unbiblical and contradictory point from Policy K05.05. Policies are to facilitate God’s work, not restrict it.

2. Please respond to our letters seeking an appointment with you. Some of our board members have written, emailed and faxed your office, but you have never responded. The most recent attempt was a few weeks ago. I humbly request, for the sake of unity, that you grant us the opportunity to meet with you to pursue a solution. If there is a way to work together while allowing God to lead, we must find it.
I appreciate you constantly encouraging the world church in Total Member Involvement, to individually do all in their power to advance the mission of the church. But so long as K05.05 #6 exists, they need to know they may only do so if they first obtain authorization from their church administration.
If you have interest in resolving this issue, kindly respond by providing us an opportunity to meet with you. You have my contact information. The world church is watching to see if godly institutions can resolve differences of opinion with an open and sweet Christian spirit. I pray for you regularly Sir.

Your brother in Christ,

David Gates

David Gates
