As I boarded my last connecting flight from the mission field to the US, I just wanted to rest. So I closed my eyes and soon I was sleeping. But in about 10 minutes I was wide awake and greeted the lady sitting next to me. When I found out she was from Haiti I perked up and greeted her in Creole. I told her I had flown eight medical trips to Haiti many years ago.

Standing at the pulpit, in the middle of my sermon, I saw him run through the church door. “Quick, a tree has fallen on a man from a neighboring village breaking his legs and injuring his abdomen. Please bring the plane and take him to the hospital,” he said.

Time to quietly think and pray. One of the benefits of long flights across the jungles and oceans is quiet time. At least when the weather is good. After several weeks in the US with speaking appointments in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma, Aunt Becky and I left on our long flight to Bolivia in the Twin Comanche.

“My brother is going to die if we can’t get him to a hospital with a thoracic surgeon. He had an accident and has chest trauma and a collapsed lung,” the voice on the phone desperately pleaded.

Yesterday, while flying our mission plane 10 hours from Grenada to the US, I was reading about Jesus’ great sacrifice for us. Then I read about the deep poverty of the early church pioneers and the long hours of labor they endured just to survive and the sacrifices they made to advance God’s work.

“I dreamed a dream so real, it was as real as me sitting here today,” Marco explained to me last week while I was in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Do you become easily discouraged by difficult circumstances or by a lack of resources? Consider who your Heavenly Father is, and how “He has placed all the treasures of heaven at our disposal.”
